The call for papers for FIG Working Week 2020 is out - it is time now to
consider submitting an abstract. You can submit both for the extensive
double blinded peer review process and also regular/short. Be inspired by
the call to submit a 3 minute video on your career path...
Each month on the FIG web site we publish a paper called the Article of the Month.
July/August 2019 is written by Kealy et al.: A Benchmarking Measurement Campaign in GNSS-denied/Challenged Indoor/Outdoor and Transitional Environments. This article is a peer reviewed paper, presented at the FIG Working Week 2019 in Hanoi, Vietnam. The paper received the navXperience award given to the best peer review paper within the area of positioning and measurement (FIG Commission 5).

FIG and the Local Organisers from the Netherlands welcome all to Amsterdam.
The FIG Working Week 2020 in Amsterdam is addressing the following overall
theme:
This theme is both relevant for the Netherlands and internationally in a world where drinking water is a scarce resource, waste water needs to be recycled rather than seen as waste, where the sea needs to be better mapped and managed, where land resources need to be protected against sea-level rise, and where land-based fresh water habitats are threatened.
The overall theme, is built up by the following sub-themes:
Rapid urban growth, smart energy, cleaner mobility, and ‘land rights for all’ are some of the challenges demanding innovative surveying approaches and technologies. Sensing technologies, spatial data processing technologies and related approaches are already available. Use and improve them to become future proof, Smart Surveyors!
Without integrated land and water management, the Netherlands as also other coastal countries cannot sustain its agricultural and urban development. Climate change, though, increases the risks of sea and riverine floods and extended drought periods and complicates this management task. Unorthodox measures are called for. Get familiar with these measures and discuss them from your critical surveyor perspective.
The countdown begins, only one decade to go to accomplish the Sustainable Development Goals. The SDGs are the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all and surveying professionals have a key role to play. How did we, as surveyors, contribute to ending poverty, improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests? In addition, what will be our role for the coming 10 years?
Exhibition and Sponsorship opportunities - please fill
in questionnaire
In order to prepare a useful, relevant and interesting
exhibition, the local organisers have prepared a questionnaire.
Please help us and respond to this - it takes only 3-5 min.
Dear (potential) participant,
As you perhaps know, the theme of the FIG Working Week 2020 in
Amsterdam refers to the ‘Smart Surveyors for Land- and Water
Management’.
In order to increase the ‘smartness’ of the Working Week, we
would like to check your expectations and wishes with respect to
the companies and organisations present at the exhibition. Your
wishes will be exchanged anonymously with registered exhibitors.
With your answers we can suggest the exhibitors to demonstrate
specific products and present services that can be of interest
for participants. In such way we can match the wishes of the
participants with the supply of the companies.
Smartness is in this case that we try to have more intelligent
and focussed interaction between all the participants.
Thank you very much for your input.
Marinus de Bakker (LOC member) responsible for exhibition
